Legacy

Susan S Freeman Blog

LegacyI got to thinking a lot about legacy this past week.  My mother-in-law passed away and the sharp separation of death, even one that is anticipated made me reflective on this topic.

Depending on your age in life you may be thinking more and more about legacy.

  • What is it that you are going to leave behind?

  • What do you most want to be remembered for?

  • What matters most?

  • Do your actions line up with your cares?

These questions are important ones to be asking for each of us.  I have a client who is fortunate enough to be working extensively at the level of creating legacy.  Her leadership cares extend to serving others at the highest level through her time, talent and financial support.  In so doing, she models and inspires this in others and together, they end up doing more than any individual thought was possible.

As we enter the first month of 2013, my hope is that you are creating a legacy with intention this year.  My hope is that you have given thought and energy to who you are being, to how you interact with others, to where you are spending your time.

  • What is the one thing you could do this year that would make you feel proud of your legacy? Do it.

  • What colleague could most benefit from your constructive comment or help? Give it.

  • What one habit should you begin creates an intentional legacy?  Start it.

  • What way of being if you develop it would make you happy?  Be it.

  • What cause reflects your passion and demonstrates your connection and commitment to serving others with your leadership gifts?  Support it.

LegacyWe are all leaving a legacy; an imprint each and every day we are alive.  Make 2013 your best year ever by reflecting and intentionally creating a legacy you will be proud to claim as yours.
